Duchess of Cornwall Joins & Promotes Credit Unions

In early May, CNW member, UKCU, representatives from the credit union trade bodies and Toynbee Hall met and had tea with HRH the Duchess of Cornwall at Clarence House, agreeing to work closely with HRH to promote credit unions. Apparently, HRH is a staunch supporter of credit unions and a member in Peckham. Learn more here

FC United Kick it Off! Business Breakfast 8am 20 June, Victoria Hotel, Chadderton

Co-ops are invited to FC United’s first ever business breakfast hosted by General Manager, Andy Walsh. The venue is close to FC United's new stadium where construction is well under way. Rochdale Hornets Round it Off! Rochdale Co-operatives Day 6 July, Spotland Stadium, Willbutts Lane, Rochdale

Rochdale Pioneers Museum ‘Co-operation on Wheels’ exhibition until 25 October

The exhibition celebrates the Tour de France racing through Rochdale Borough on 6 July. Exhibits explores the link between cycling and co-ops. There are a range of bikes and cycling memorabilia on display, from original Co-operative Wholesale Society delivery bikes to one of the latest road bikes used by professionals. Commemorating Calder Valley Co-op Leaders 10.15am 5 July Sandy Lane Burial Ground Gates, Hebden Bridge

Flowers will be laid at the graves of Jesse Gray (former General Secretary, Co-operative Union) and Joseph Greenwood (Manager, Hebden Bridge Fustian Manufacturing Cooperative) and First Treasurer, International Co-operative Alliance)

Seminar: Rebuilding a Vibrant Coop Tradition in Calder Valley: 5 July 11am-12.30pm

Venue: Conference Room, The Birchcliffe Centre, Hebden Bridge

North West Housing Services Thank You Barbecue 4 July Liverpool

North West Housing Services is a customer owned business which provides management services to over 30 housing co-operatives. The barbecue is held annually to coincide with Co-operatives Fortnight. The number of guests increases each year, and in 2013, there were 150 attendees. Preston City Council and UCLan Seek Co-op Research Support

Preston Council and UCLan are planning a research project on co-operation, comparing organisations that are registered co-operatives with non registered bodies that see informal co-operation as a major part of their culture. The project is the initial research to a potentially larger scheme funded by the EU URBACT programme, to be submitted in 2015. All interested, please contact Gordon Benson

Lakamka runs an independent, not for profit, workers co-operative project with the trading name of 'The Kitchen' on Great Moor Street, Bolton. trading since 2009, it aims to produce and promote fantastic delicious, nutritious, vegetable based foods through its café project, external catering work and community education activities. Lakamka members work together and in the community using and promoting co-operative principles. More info here

MORE Renewables Launch Third Community Share Offer

MORE Renewables, the community renewable energy co-operative for the Morecambe Bay area, has opened its third share offer - to raise £50,000 to fund a second solar PV system at Forge Bank, the Lancaster Cohousing development at Halton near Lancaster. FC United of Manchester Seeks Assistance to KIt-It-Out

FC has a Crowdfunding scheme to equip the commercial kitchen at its new Broadhurst Park stadium, which is due for completion by October. Those wishing to donate please click here . The Co-operative Group has put a pause on much of its spending on social goals, including membership and community activities, pending its Annual General Meeting in May.
