FC United of Manchester

Football supporters who were tired of the high prices and lack of involvement which revolved around corporate football set up FC United of Manchester, a football club which is owned entirely by the fans. The steering group of Manchester United fans set up the club as a supporter-owned, not-for-profit organisation. On 16 July 2005 the first game was played at Leigh in front of a crowd of 2,552. FC United involve the community at all levels and always take community feeling into account when making decisions. FC United is seeking to buy its own ground in Newton Heath, in part through raising £1.5m in community shares. Industrial and Provident Societies are unique in being able to raise capital from members in this way.
